Grooming Anxious & Nervous Dogs

At Petals Dog Groomers we strive to give your pooch a positive grooming experience.

To help a nervous dog prepare for their groom, we will speak to your dog calmly and let them have a little wonder around the salon to gain some familiarity, they can also safely sniff and explore the tools such as brushes and clippers. Being prepared will help your dog remain calm throughout the grooming process. We will then wait until your dog is calm before beginning grooming, and have treats handy to reward good behaviour.

Dogs love to be patted and pet, and grooming time is no different. During the groom, we talk to your dog, calmly and softly and frequently stroke your nervous dog throughout the grooming process. This can help to reassure your pet that everything is ok and that there is nothing to be afraid of.

PRE-GROOMING TIP:

Calm your dog down before grooming by engaging them in vigorous exercise. Take them on long walks, let them run, play fetch with a ball, or let them interact with other dogs at the park. These activities will help sedate your dog naturally without relying on medication. Grooming becomes a relaxed and straightforward process once your dog has expended their energy

Special Needs Dog Grooming

We only groom one/two dogs at any given time, so this is ideal for dogs with special needs, such as hearing, vision or any other problems.
